City vs. Nature

Living

We Look

We Listen

We Speak

But

Do we See?

Do we Hear?

Do we Understand?

Are We Blind?

Are we Deaf?

Are we Dumb?

Why we

Can’t See Through?

Can’t Listen For?

Can’t Speak Out?

Are we Coward?

Are we Stupid?

Are we Dull?

Things are Wrong or Not Right

Why we See it

Not Say Anything

and Tolerate it?

Is that Human Nature?

Prefer to Ignore?

Forget?

and Take for Granted?

Reaching

I am Reaching you…

Vacation Diary

Well, my vacation is not that bad so far, although I was a bit worry about the swine flu and kind of stuck myself in the city and did not plan travelling anywhere else. Yet, I already enjoyed a fantastic Book Talk by Jack Perkowski, a nice decent guy truly understanding the Chinese culture while so down to earth creating his US$500 billion company from scratch, even never previously worked in the industry or in China.

Also, I’ve attended a Champagne Brunch at Kathleen's 5, for the 75th anniversary of the Shanghai Race Club and the release of the SRC board game, besides learning some missing pieces of my city’s history.

While strolling around my favorite Huai Hai Rd, inevitably I encountered the Barbie Shanghai, a six-storey pink-tinged building claimed as the world's largest and the first ever Barbie worldwide flagship store. You know as a girl deep inside, I just cannot help stepping into the unknown world and discovering something I never experienced before.

It is a glamorous place indeed, despite the neon-lit pink escalator tunnel humming with a recorded sound of giggling girls that made me a little uncomfortable. However, as walking into the lobby, a whole wall of doll presentation is truly amazing, proved the ultimate Barbie fantasy.

Later, sitting at the Barbie Café created by David Laris of Laris at Three on the Bund, and sipping herbal tea with my 3-course meal, I indulge myself and forget all about the world.

With a pink passport and VIP card in my hands, here I am, experiencing an incredible pink world where the dream does come true Smile

Open Mind Open Market

Recessions are neither good for the economy nor morally uplifting, especially when the global financial crisis erupted of last year is showing everyone of us, that we're living in an interdependent business world and no one can ever solve problems on our own. We're in the era of open market and practical globalization.

While slashing costs during the downturn makes more challenging to plan for further performance improvements or better services that might enable companies to emerge from the recession successfully, it's time to clarify our mind and ask: what can be done differently? Can we be creative rather than reactive? Shall we see the global economic turmoil just as a new normal?

Certainly, old patterns in the past proved not work well. While the new ones are waiting for emerge, the challenge ahead is sure a big one. Companies may have different goals for different products, geographies, or customer segments, thus to reform a business takes insight and imagination. It would take certain time to find the way to harness the expertise and resources of companies and energize individuals towards shared goals, it would also take time to build a cohesive team where everyone is clear on the goals and the place within the plan. Besides, adjustment is neither easy nor quick, despite the obvious balancing and courage it would require during the process.

The break is sure indication to concentrate on and strengthen our competitive advantages, and start a process of review, rethink, rebuild and reformation with more comprehensive approach to actions. The hard times also help us overcome the mind-set barriers that slow down so many good ideas to action and opportunities in disguise of the past.

Looking ahead, things are not easy and it is hard to make a cheerful story out of that. However, the final breakthroughs only become possible when actions are willing to take risks because of the confidence we build in ourselves.

St. Patrick's Day Parade

10:30am, Saturday – starting at the south entrance of Fuxing Park towards Yandang Pedestrian Street, the St. Patrick's Day parade is back in Shanghai for the round three. For the first time in my life, I see a Green Dragon covered by shamrock – well, I have to admit certain people on this planet are much more creative Wink

There’re still the native Celtic bagpipe forward with a marching band, sporting groups, and tourist bureau, also some Irish dancing performances at the event.

I do enjoy as always

Opinions

Nowadays

Everyone has his/her own opinion

It is good

However

Nobody willing to listen any more

That is not right

Finally

All depends on the art of balancing

The timing

Expressing yet listening

That would be the key

It is Sharing...
